Late Dr. Shaukat Sadikot, the founder president of Diabetes India, was a true inspiration. With a remarkable career spanning over 30 years, Dr. Sadikot played an active role in addressing the challenges of diabetes and associated metabolic disorders at regional, national, and international levels.

As a Consultant in Endocrinology at the esteemed Jaslok Hospital and Research Center in Mumbai, Dr. Sadikot made significant contributions to the field. His unwavering commitment and dedication to the cause of diabetes are evident in his numerous achievements. Notably, he spearheaded the first nationwide survey on the prevalence of diabetes in India, showcasing his pioneering spirit and serving as an inspiration to diabetes healthcare professionals worldwide.

Dr. Sadikot served as the President of Diabetes India for several years, during which he launched various initiatives to enhance healthcare professional education in the field of diabetes. His role as a renowned epidemiologist further solidified his expertise in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic Disorders.

Dr. Sadikot’s leadership extended beyond Diabetes India. As the President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), he oversaw the establishment of the IDF School of Diabetes—a flagship program supporting online health professional education. Under his guidance, the 7th Edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas was published, providing invaluable insights into the global burden of diabetes. Additionally, the successful IDF Congress 2017 held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, showcased his ability to bring together experts and foster collaboration.

Recognized as a distinguished editor, Dr. Sadikot helmed the international scientific journal “Diabetes and the Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews.” He authored four books and contributed to over 90 publications, leaving a significant impact on the scientific community.

Dr. Sadikot’s contributions extended to various committees and task forces within the IDF, including those focusing on insulin, test strips, and other diabetes supplies, the prevention of prediabetes, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea.

DiabetesIndia proudly published “Sadikot’s International Textbook of Diabetes,” a comprehensive publication featuring contributions from over 100 authors, further exemplifying Dr. Sadikot’s commitment to advancing knowledge and education in diabetes care.
